Despite growing awareness, palliative care remains underutilized, with many families unaware of available services until very late in illness progression.

Many services operate on donation basis or sliding scale fees to ensure accessibility. Insurance coverage for palliative care is limited, though some policies cover hospice care and certain palliative services.

Early palliative care integration improves patient outcomes, reduces hospitalizations, and enhances quality of life. Families should discuss palliative care when serious illness is diagnosed, not just at end of life. Open conversations with healthcare providers about goals, values, and preferences ensure care aligns with patient wishes, avoiding unwanted interventions and supporting meaningful final months.
